Meet the Editors
FACULTY
Dr. Shannon Kelley, Founder and Faculty Director; Faculty Advisor, Issues IX, X, XI, XVII, XXII
Prof. Kelley is Director of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Associate Professor of English at Fairfield University. She received her B.A. from University of Louisville and her Ph.D. from Duke University. Her fields of research include lyric poetry, queer theory, literary ecocriticism, early modern culture, science studies, and Renaissance drama.
CURRENT STAFF EDITORS
Katelyn Richardson, Editor in Chief
Katelyn is a Junior at Fairfield University, where she double majors in English and Communications. She has a passion for creative writing across poetry, prose, fiction, and nonfiction. Katelyn is also actively involved in the university’s Studio Art Department where she assists with photography classes. Being a former assistant editor of Dogwood: A Journal of Poetry and Prose, she is excited to contribute to Issue XXII of Apollon and further develop her editing experience.
Marice Rose, Faculty Advisor, Issues XV, XVI, XVIII, XX
Marice Rose is Professor of Art History and Visual Culture at Fairfield University. She has published on the subjects of ancient hairstyling, classical reception, late Roman domestic decoration, and art history pedagogy. Her editorial work includes a book of collected essays, scholarly journals, archaeological excavation reports, and a catalogue of Cypriot antiquities in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Emily Garry, Copy Chief
Emily is a Senior at Fairfield University, majoring in English and pursuing minors in Educational Studies and Special Education to become a high school English teacher. Emily enjoys working with kids and working as a research tutor at Fairfield University’s library. She is very excited to work on this edition of Apollon and celebrate achievements in the humanities!
Silvia Marsans-Sakly, Faculty Advisor, Issues XIII, XIV and XIX
Prof. Marsans-Sakly is an Associate Professor of the Practice at Fairfield University and Faculty Advisor for Issues XIII, XIV and XIX. She received her BA from the University of Chicago and her MA in Journalism and Near Eastern Studies and Ph.D. in Middle East Studies and Modern European History both from NYU. Her fields of research include the Modern Maghrib (North Africa) and colonialism.
Autumn Bartush, Image Editor
Autumn is a Senior at Fairfield University, majoring in English and Education, with aspirations of becoming an elementary school teacher. She is passionate about volunteering in school communities, coaching field hockey, and cultivating meaningful learning experiences for young students. Alongside her academic commitments, she enjoys writing and contributing to Apollon as an editor.
Lisa Pierce Flores, Faculty Advisor, Issue XII
Journalist, essayist, and poet Lisa Pierce Flores teaches writing and journalism at Fairfield University. She earned her BA from Pennsylvania State University and her MFA from Manhattanville College. A columnist for Hearst Connecticut Media Group and the author of The History of Puerto Rico, her work has appeared in The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, and Till the Tide: An Anthology of Mermaid Poetry.
Olivia Ambrosio, Social Media Editor
Olivia Ambrosio is a Senior Communication major with a minor in Religious Studies at Fairfield University. Originally from Brewster, New York, she is passionate about digital media, storytelling, and the ways communication shapes community. Olivia brings experience in social media strategy and content creation to her role as Social Media Editor and is excited to support Apollon’s mission by helping share student work with a wider audience. She is thrilled to be joining the Apollon team!

Olivia Ranno, Website Editor, Issue XXI: Olivia is a junior Communications major with minors in Marketing and Public Relations at Fairfield University. Though her academic focus lies outside of English, she has a strong passion for writing and storytelling. She is very excited to be an editor for the Apollon Journal and looks forward to gaining valuable experience in editing and publishing!
Brianna McAleer, Editor-in-Chief, Issue XX: Brianna is a senior History major with minors in Politics and English at Fairfield University. She has a passion for reading, writing, and research, which prompted her to create a digital magazine called The EastCoaster. Through her commitment to research, she became a Research Fellow at Fairfield University’s Humanities Institute. She is extremely thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Apollon team.
Grace Polatsek, Managing Editor, Issue XXI: Grace is a Senior at Fairfield University, majoring in accounting and finance. She is also pursuing a minor in business law, regulation, and ethics. Grace is also on the Women's Rowing team at Fairfield University. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
Elizabeth DiBenedetto, Social Media Editor, Issue XXI: Elizabeth is a senior English major at Fairfield University with a minor in Editing and Publishing. She is originally from New Jersey, she is passionate about literature, writing, and the publishing world. Elizabeth is excited to work with her fellow editors and is not only thrilled but grateful to be part of the Apollon team!
Matthew Celentano, Copy Chief, Issue XXI: Matthew is a Finance and Accounting double major at Fairfield University. He has deepened his involvement in Fairfield University's community by supporting alumni entrepreneurs through Lantern Point Labs and collaborating with fellow students to research and manage a portfolio of investments in Fairfield Investment Group. He is excited to broaden this engagement by working with humanities scholars as an editor for the Apollon Journal. Outside of the classroom, Matthew enjoys reading, playing golf, and skiing.
McKenna Heaney, SEO Editor, Issue XX: McKenna is a sophomore at Fairfield University majoring in English with a concentration in Professional Writing, and is a recent member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Pre-Law Society. She has personal interests in reading and writing, especially centered around historical and linguistic concepts. McKenna is looking forward to learning the editorial process as well as working with her peers to publish the next issue of Apollon!"
Therafi ‘Ariel’ Lin, Editor-in-Chief, Issue XXI : Ariel is an undergraduate English and Biology major with minors in Philosophy and History. She may have taken the idea of “pursuing knowledge” a little too much like Icarus to the sky but thankfully, she usually shies away from sunlight. She manages the local student-run creative journal, The Inkwell, and her passion for research in both the Sciences and the Humanities led her to become a Research Fellow in the Humanities Institute as well as with Fairfield’s Biology Department. She’s incredibly excited to be a part of Apollon for the semester!
Emma Dobrovich, Managing Editor, Issue XX: Emma is a junior at Fairfield University studying Art History with a concentration in Visual Arts Administration, with minors in Educational Studies as well as Ancient Mediterranean Studies. In addition to being a staff writer on the Fairfield Mirror and The Point Magazine, she spends most of her free time painting, reading, journaling, and going to the latest exhibitions at her favorite museums. She is thrilled to be a part of the Apollon team this semester and cannot wait to share her excitement for the humanities this spring.
Megan Bacher, Social Media & Image Editor, Issue XX: Megan is a Senior English Creative Writing and Studio Art double major, minoring in Graphic Design, Marketing, and Editing & Publishing. Megan has previously worked as an Associate Editor at Dogwood: A Journal of Poetry and Prose and as a Content Writer at Glitter Magazine. Megan always has a pen or paintbrush in hand, eager to create. She has a deep passion for writing, literature, and the arts, and is thrilled to be joining the Apollon team, ready to embark on this new journey.
Robert Gorman, Website Editor, Issue XX: A native of South Salem, New York, Robert Gorman is a Fairfield University undergraduate student with Bachelor’s degree majors in Spanish as a modern language and English Literature, and minors in Asian Studies and Philosophy. His hobbies include creative writing and video game and music production. He enjoys a wide variety of literature in and outside of the classroom, particularly stories with the archetype based on Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, wherein a protagonist endures various trials in order to manifest a better life for him/herself and others.
Sophia Cossitt-Levy, Managing Editor, Issue XX: Sophia is a sophomore at Fairfield University double majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She is also pursuing minors in Editing and Publishing as well as Film. Sophia is currently the head news editor at the Fairfield Mirror, Fairfield’s student-run newspaper, and an associate editor at the Dogwood literary journal. In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good book or attempting to write her own (hopefully) good book.
Olivia Signore, Copy Chief, Issue XX: Olivia is currently a sophomore at Fairfield University. She majors in Politics with a minor in Italian. She spends much time reading academic journals for her classes and is excited to be on the editing/publishing end of one!
Julia Braatz, Editor-In-Chief, Issue 19: Julia is a Senior English Creative Writing and Studio Art Double Major, with a minor in Editing & Publishing at Fairfield University. She has always loved writing and reading, which she’s incorporated into multiple facets of her career, such as being an editor for Greenwich Magazine, Trill Magazine, and Fairfield University’s library magazine Dogwood: A Journal of Poetry and Prose.
Laura Clavijo, Managing Editor, Issue 19: Born in Bogota, Colombia. Laura is an English/Lit & Cultural Studies Major, minoring in Modern Language, French, Asian Studies and Library, Technology and Information Studies at Fairfield University. Devoted to her family and friends. Her mother nurtured her love for literature and art and her friends her appreciation for cultural diversity. She strives to become a librarian and bring joy to people’s lives.
Kaitlyn Conroy, Copy Chief Editor, Issue 19: Kaitlyn is a senior at Fairfield University studying English with minors in Editing & Publishing, History, and American Studies. She spends most of her free time reading, writing, cooking, extravagant meals, and catching up with the latest pop culture gossip. She is thrilled to share her appreciation for humanities research and publishing with her fellow staff editors this fall.
Charley Martabano, Technology and SEO Editor, Issue 19: Charley is a Junior at Fairfield University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Marketing. She has loved writing since a young age and is incredibly grateful for this opportunity to work with like-minded individuals within the humanities department and Apollon. In her free time, Charley enjoys playing video games, in which she is the President of the Fairfield University ESports Club., cooking, baking, and spending time with friends and family.
Giana Russo, Editor-in-Chief: I am currently a junior at Fairfield University studying English with a concentration in Creative Writing, as well as a minor in Editing and Publishing. I am an assistant editor at the Dogwood Literary Journal, a tutor at the writing center, and a participating writer for Fairfield’s ‘Mirror,’ the school newspaper. I look forward to working on the staff of Apollon and learning more about the world of publishing!
Mia (Amelia) Haberman, Image Editor: Mia is a senior English major with a concentration in Creative Writing with minors in Editing and Publishing and American Studies. She has won awards for Creative writing and Poetry in both 2022 and 2023. Mia has previously worked as an Associate Editor for Dogwood: Journal of Poetry and Prose and is looking forward to gaining more experience with Non-Fiction in Apollon.
Jake Lanius, Copy Editor: Hello, my name is Jake Lanius and I am a senior Finance major and Marketing minor at Fairfield University. I thoroughly enjoy writing in the humanities and am excited for the opportunity to take on an editing role. Delving into the exciting manuscripts that were submitted will be a great challenge that I am prepared to tackle. On the personal side, some of my hobbies include playing lacrosse, going on long runs, and eating good food.
Peter Torre, SEO Editor: My name is Peter Torre, and I'm a junior at Fairfield University. I'm majoring in English creative writing, with a minor in editing & publishing, and I'm currently working for Dogwood and Apollon journals. I have also written for the Mirror, our school newspaper.
Catherine Arend, Social Media Editor: I am a current sophomore at Fairfield University and am working towards a degree in Nutrition and a minor in journalism. Ever since I was little, I have had a passion for writing which is what initially drew me to join the Apollon team. I am so excited to get to work and release the next issue of Apollon! -
Jenna Codey, Social Media Editor. I am a sophomore here at Fairfield University, with a major in Communication and minors in Marketing and Digital Journalism. I have a love for all things writing and design, which I utilize when writing for The Point magazine in Fairfield. I am looking forward to the opportunity to dive into the editing and publishing world with Apollon, expanding my skills as a writer!
Luiza Sperling, SEO Editor, Issue 18: Luiza is a senior at Fairfield University majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and minors in Editing and Publishing and Judaic studies. She is an avid reader and lover of romance novels and also enjoys writing her own stories in her free time. As someone who is passionate about writing and improving her skills, Luiza works as a contributing writer for the Her Campus chapter at Fairfield U.
Justine Cuomo, Copy Chief, Issue 18: Justine is a junior at Fairfield University majoring in Communication with a Marketing minor. Since she was young, Justine has had a passion for reading and writing, which has only grown since coming to Fairfield. As Justine has never been exposed to the world of publishing, she is excited to gain valuable experience as part of the Apollon team!
Emma Paolantonio, Copy Chief and Website Editor. I'm a junior at Fairfield University with a double major in Film, Television and Media Arts and English with a concentration in creative writing. Some of my favorite things include playing piano, writing poetry, and spending long days at the beach. I'm very excited to work with my fellow editors, gain some valuable work experience, and expand my skills as a writer!
Hannah Collins, Social Media Editor, Issue 18: Hannah is a senior at Fairfield University. She is an English major with a concentration in Professional Writing, along with a minor in Marketing. Writing has always been a passion of hers and she’s incorporated it into her college career through multiple magazines and clubs at Fairfield., including as Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus.
Julie White, Editor-in-Chief, Issue 18: Julie is a senior at Fairfield University studying English Creative Writing with minors in American Studies, Editing and Publishing, and Philosophy. In addition to her loves of reading and writing, Julie is an avid learner. She is thrilled to be a part of the Apollon editorial team and excited to work hands-on with undergraduate authors to publish their work.
Christina Silvestri, Image Editor, Issue 18: Christina is a part of the Fairfield University class of 2025. She majors in English with minors in Editing and Publishing along with Italian Language and Literatures. Christina loves to read whenever she can, while also regularly contributing to three digital publications: The Fairfield Mirror, Her Campus at Fairfield, and The EastCoaster. She also enjoys tutoring at the Fairfield Writing Center.
Finn Collins, Editor-in-Chief. I am currently a senior at Fairfield University studying toward a B.S. in Finance with a minor in accounting. I have participated in humanities research projects throughout my time at Fairfield University, most notably presenting at the Fairfield Innovative Symposium on the roles and consequences of race and gender within Shakespeare’s Othello. I am extremely excited to dive in and take a look at our submissions for the current issue!
Izzy (Isabella) Grey, Social Media Editor, Issue 18: Izzy is a senior Marketing major and Graphic Design minor at Fairfield University. Izzy has always been creative since she was young and loves to continue to learn through various outlets such as reading, designing, and writing. Joining the Apollon team has allowed her to learn new skills and appreciate the full process of publishing a journal.
Maggie McGinley, Managing Editor, Issue 18: Maggie is currently a Sophomore at Fairfield University majoring in Communication with minors in Marketing and Digital Journalism. She has always enjoyed writing, both for fun and academically. She is eager to learn more about the world of publishing and to sharpen her editing skills. Maggie is looking forward to joining the team of staff editors and releasing the next issue for Apollon!
Jessica Muzii

My name is Jessica Muzii and I am a senior English major with a focus in Teacher Education. I have two minors: Educational Studies and Psychology. After I graduate, I want to be an elementary school teacher. However, writing is one of my many passions and if I were to go into publishing, I would love to focus on publishing children’s books. Additionally, I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society. I am very excited to a part of this edition of Apollon and I am looking forward to learning through this experience.
Dean Hartl, Managing Editor
Hello! My name is Dean Hartl and I am a first-year philosophy major and management minor at Fairfield University. In my free time I enjoy playing basketball, spending time with my family and friends, playing video games, guitar, and hanging out with my dogs. I’m excited to publish Issue XIV of the Apollon journal, and I hope the skills that I have learned translate to my future endeavors in effective writing and communication.
Nick Peeples, Tech and Layout Editor
Hello, my name is Nick Peeples and I am a freshman at Fairfield University. I am currently undecided on my major but hoping to pursue computer science. I love music, as I play trumpet for Fairfield University’s Pep Band and Concert Band, and I am currently learning how to play clarinet. I am very pleased to have been a part of the Apollon team for Issue XIV, and I hope that my role as tech editor will help me in my potential endeavors in the tech industry.
Aarushi Vijay, Managing Editor Issue XIII
I am a Senior double majoring in Computer Science and English with a concentration in Professional Writing at Fairfield University. I have been the President of Performing for Change, Vice-President for the South Asian Student Association, and the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for FUSA. I have interned at a tech company as a Technical Writer. I was the Managing Editor at Apollon for Fall 2021 and it was a highlight of my experience at Fairfield as it gave me an avenue to apply my skills in editing and professional communication with the authors. It was such a privilege to get to read everyone’s work. I will definitely be taking away a lot from this experience.
Frances Harmon, Editor-in-Chief, Issue18: Frances is currently a junior at Fairfield University majoring in Anthropology and Sociology and minoring in Elementary Education and Studio Art. She spends most of her free time singing with Fairfield’s Glee Club and making jewelry. She has relied on journals like Apollon during her academic career. Frances is so excited to be a part of the Apollon team and is truly grateful for this opportunity.
Abby White, Copy Editor and Social Media Manager
My name is Abby and I am a sophomore at Fairfield University. I have a major in Communication and a minor in Digital Journalism. Reading and writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and I have recently started working for Fairfield’s student newspaper, The Mirror. I began as a contributing writer earlier this year and I now work as an assistant editor for The Vine (the arts and culture section of The Mirror). I am interested in exploring a career in editing and publishing and I am grateful for the experience Apollon has given to me.
Peyton Mulligan, Managing Editor. I am a senior at Fairfield University. I am an English major with a concentration in Teacher Education and a minor in Elementary Education. While most of my focus at Fairfield has been on learning how to teach, I absolutely love writing and reading in all forms. I have mostly only gotten to practice my editing skills with little ones, so I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to edit for Apollon this year.
Lisa Wilson, Copy Chief and Image Editor. Hello! I’m a senior at Fairfield University that's majoring in English and Teacher Education. I’m a big bookworm that has two bookshelves in my room filled with many different genres of reading. I hope that being an editor for the Apollo helps me to improve the skills that I’ve learned in all of my classes. As this is my last year at Fairfield I feel like working on the Apollo will be a fun way to end my undergraduate career.
Lauren Behrens, Social Media Editor. Hi! I am a junior here at Fairfield. I am majoring in English with a concentration in Literature, and minors in Art History and Editing and Publishing. I am excited for the hands-on editing experience that I will get working on Apollon this year, and I am looking forward to reading the submissions and working on the journal!
Jessica Colloca
My name is Jessica Colloca, and I am a senior at Fairfield University. I am a double major in English and Digital Journalism with a minor in Italian. I have always loved writing stories and reading, and I have dreamt of becoming a published author ever since I was in elementary school.
I am a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society and the Alpha Mu Gamma Foreign Language Honor Society. I also work in the Writing Center at Fairfield University where my job is to help my peers through the writing and revision process. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the editing staff for Apollon; I hope to use this experience as a stepping stone into the publishing industry. After graduation, I would like to work at a publishing house or literary agency.
Mairead Quinn, Managing Editor: I am a senior at Fairfield University. I am a Finance major and a minor in Marketing. While most of my focus at Fairfield has been on learning about finance and the business world, I absolutely love writing and reading in all forms. I have mostly only gotten to practice my editing skills with a concentration in business, so I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to edit for Apollon this year.
Jacqueline Rigazio, Editor-in-Chief and Website Editor. I’m currently a sophomore here at Fairfield University. I am majoring in English with a concentration in Literature and minoring in editing and publishing. I have always had a passion for reading and writing, so I am super excited to apply my skills to Apollon this semester. I am looking forward to the hands-on experience that Apollon will provide and can’t wait to learn more about the publishing industry! Outside of classes, some of my hobbies include dancing, photography, art, writing for the school newspaper, and visiting coffee shops.
Erin Delaney, Image Editor. I’m a double major in History and English with a concentration in Literature. I also have a minor in Irish Studies. I love to read and write, and I host my own radio show on Fairfield’s own radio station, WVOF. I am excited to learn more about the field of publishing, and the opportunity to work on this semester’s issue of Apollon.
Madeline Hossler, Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor. I’m a senior at Fairfield University. I am a triple major in Politics, American Studies, and Political Anthropology (which is an individually designed major). I also have minors in Anthropology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I am a Student Fellow with the Humanities Institute doing research in religious studies. I edit the Opinion section of Fairfield University’s student newspaper, The Mirror. I’m looking forward to furthering my editing and publishing skills and contributing to this wonderful journal!

Phoebe, Summer 22 Editor
Hello! My name is Phoebe. I am a senior at Fairfield University, triple majoring in English, Art History, and Anthropology, with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I intern at the Fairfield University Art Museum and am a Student Fellow with the Humanities Institute. I’m so glad to have gained experience working on the journal and am excited to see where future editors take Apollon.
Dylan McDermott, Copy Chief
Hi, my name is Dylan McDermott and I am a first-year honors student at Fairfield University. I am a history major with a minor in Asian studies, focusing on Chinese language and culture. I am interested in pursuing a career in law, as I hold the position of Associate Justice in the Fairfield University Student Association. I am really excited about Apollon Issue XIV because we are the largest issue to date and worked with numerous thought-provoking essays. As a member of the editing team, I enjoyed how we were able to collaborate with each other and the authors to put forth the best journal possible.
Sophia Spinelli, Copy Chief. I am a senior at Fairfield University. I’m a Spanish major with a minor in Elementary Education. I have always loved the humanities, and I especially enjoy reading, writing, and studying languages. I’m eager to learn about the world of editing and publishing while reading all of the outstanding work submitted this year!
Daniel Messier
My name is Daniel Messier and I am a Junior English Literature and Politics double major with a minor in music. I worked at the Fairfield University writing center as a tutor where I helped students through their writing process. I also worked as an Assistant Editor for Fairfield University's student newspaper The Mirror, where I published articles and worked on layout format weekly. I love to read and write and hope to have a career in publishing.
Devin Johnson
My name is Devin Johnson and I am a Junior at Fairfield University majoring in English, Professional Writing with a minor in Business Law and Ethics. On campus I am a member of the Sailing Team, Honors Program and Pre Law Society. I hope to one day attend law school or be on the business side of publishing.
I am so excited to be a part of the Apollon Editorial Board and collaborate with my peers on Issue XI. I am confident that this experience will further develop my editing and critical thinking skills.
Jarred Nowak, Editor-in-Chief and Website Editor. I am a junior here at Fairfield University. I am majoring in psychology with a concentration in behavioral neuroscience and minoring in English. I have always enjoyed reading and writing, and am looking forward to the unique opportunity this semester to work on the Apollon Journal with some of my peers! Outside of school I enjoy the outdoors, especially through my involvement with scouting, and am an avid Harry Potter fan.
Alec Lurie
I am a senior English Major with minors in American Cultural Studies and Educational studies. I also work as a writing tutor at Fairfield University’s Writing Center, and I’m working with the university, in conjunction with the Fairfield Historical Society to develop a census-like database of all slaves who lived in Colonial Fairfield.
Molly Ryan
My name is Molly Ryan and I am a junior at Fairfield University. I am a double major in English and American Studies with a minor in Peace and Justice Studies. I have been an avid reader and writer for as long as I can remember—I can even recall a few times I stayed up all night to finish a good book. I am also a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.
I feel very fortunate to be apart of the editing staff for the Apollon. By working for the Apollon I hope to enhance my skills and further my experience in the field. After graduating, I hope to move on to Law school or find a career in the publishing sphere.
Jared Novotny
I am an English major with a concentration in literature at Fairfield University. I was born and raised in Albany County, New York, and attended high school at The Albany Academies. Although I was an avid reader for most of my childhood, it was at Albany Academy that I acquired a love for English literature and writing studies. This is partly in thanks to the material that was taught in my English courses, but mostly due to the encouragement and support of my teachers, who always pushed my reading and writing ability further than I thought I was capable of.
When I am not working for the Apollon or catching up on my studies, I enjoy hitting the bag at my local boxing gym. I find that it is not only a great outlet for stress relief, but also provides a sense of improvement and progress that is hard to find anywhere else. While I am home for the summer, I like to go kayaking and fishing with my family. As far as activities that are less physical go, I love to spend time with my friends, whether that time be spent seeing a movie, playing board games, or just doing nothing at all. Finally, sleeping is a passion of mine and I try to spend my time doing it as often as possible.
I am thrilled to be able to contribute to the Apollon for its first year at Fairfield University, and hope that I am able to help aspiring writers, just as my teachers and professors helped and encouraged me. Although I am uncertain of what path I will take after leaving Fairfield, I expect that my time spent with the Apollon will aid me in gaining skills and knowledge that I can apply to a career further down the line.
Kaitlyn Sandvik
I am a senior English major with minors in philosophy and education. I believe in the transformational power of language to heal and am passionate about art in all forms as energetic therapy. I occasionally DJ a web radio show centered on the intersections of justice and music. Some of my favorite authors include Audre Lorde, Susan Sontag, and James Baldwin. When I am not on campus, you can find me at a local school working with amazing youth, practicing hot yoga, at the beach waiting for the sun, or walking my angelic dog wherever his heart desires. I feel grateful to work on the coming issue of Apollon and look forward to growth alongside my peers.
Brandon Robles
My name is Brandon Robles, and I’m a junior at Fairfield University. I’m a Creative Writing major as well as a Studio Art minor. I am a member of Inkwell as well as its assistant editor. I’ve been reading since elementary school while drawing all the while. It’s at Fairfield U that I’m able to work towards my goal of becoming a writer and illustrator. I hope that my time with Apollon will help me tremendously in my reading and writing skills.

I am a senior English major at Fairfield University with minor pursuits in Communication and French. I am heavily engaged with Fairfield’s written discourse community and have been an undergraduate tutor in Fairfield’s Writing Center for four semesters. I have interned for a bestselling women’s fiction author, handling social media marketing, publicity and schedule management. Currently, I am a remote intern for Blackman Music Group in Miami, Florida and assist CEO Anthony Blackman in exploring the logistics of publishing his first book. After graduation, I hope my relevant work experience will earn me a place in the publishing world.

My name is Kierstin Jones and I am a senior Theatre major with a minor in Biochemistry. I’ve been reading and writing since I can remember and I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to practice doing what I love. When I’m not backstage or in the research lab, I am tutoring at the Fairfield University Writing Center, writing short stories, or looking up the answers in the back of my jumbo crossword book.
Christina Bogacz
I am a senior English major with minors in Educational Studies and Mathematics at Fairfield University. My love for literature began at a young age and has continued to flourish in my time spent studying at Fairfield University. On campus, I am one of the co-leaders of the church choir, Lord’s Chords, and I work as a Service Learning Associate where I assist professors in classes that have a component of service included in the course. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, practicing yoga, going to the beach, and spending time with my family and friends. I am excited to be a part of the Apollon team at Fairfield this year!
Elizabeth Conklin
I am an English major and studio art minor at Fairfield University. I am a proud New Yorker, an animal lover, and a fierce feminist. In my free time, I enjoy creative writing, playing soccer and volleyball, practicing yoga, and playing with my cats. I am excited to be a part of Apollon’s first year at Fairfield, and I hope that the skills I learn here will help me in my endeavors at law school, which I will be attending next year.
Caitlin Mulhall
I am currently a senior English Literature major with minors in Psychology and Health Studies. My love for literature really took root while I was attending Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Connecticut. In addition to working for the Apollon, I am a Humanities fellow here at Fairfield University’s very own Humanities Institute. At the moment, I am working on my own research project exploring the roots and presence of colorism in American society.
When I am not reading through essays for the Apollon, one can find me hanging out with friends in the mezz, hiding in the DiMenna-Nyselius library, or running at the track.
I am so excited to be part of the Apollon team this year and look forward to seeing this journal blossom at Fairfield University.

I am a senior at Fairfield University, where I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. With a major in Digital Journalism and minor in communication, I aspire to fulfill a lifelong goal of making writing into a career. My love for writing and dream of becoming a published author began in first grade when I had to write a “book” for a class assignment. My position as Managing Editor at Apollon is another step toward my aspiration of becoming a professional writer.

My name is Ellie Powers, and I am a senior at Fairfield University. I have a major in English with a concentration in Teacher Education, and I also have a minor in Educational Studies. Additionally, I will soon be inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society. From a young age, I have had a great love for writing and working with children. As an undergraduate student at Fairfield, I have been fortunate to have had numerous experiences in elementary school classrooms where my passion for working with children has only grown stronger.

I am a junior English and Communication double major at Fairfield University. My fierce passion for reading began as a young night owl who refused to go to bed before finishing “just one more chapter,” and my love of literature has only continued to grow since then. I have worked on campus as a peer notetaker and I had the great opportunity to work as an editorial intern at Penguin Random House this summer in NYC.
I am excited to be a new member of the Apollon team this year and hope this experience will help me to pursue a career in publishing after graduation!

I am a senior at Fairfield University. I am an English major with a concentration in literature and cultural studies. I also have a minor in peace and justice. I am a die-hard feminist as well as a proud supporter of BLM and LGBTQ+ rights.
In my free time I enjoy reading poetry, drawing, going on bike rides, and playing board games with my family. I am very proud to be part of the Apollon Team and I am looking forward to learning more about the world of publishing through this hands-on experience.
Nicole Maher
My name is Nicole Maher, and I am a Junior at Fairfield University. I have a double major in Communication and English, with a concentration in Creative Writing. While I have always loved reading and writing, I did not truly explore these hobbies in full until I arrived at Fairfield and began taking Creative Writing courses.
Along with being an editor on the Apollon Journal, I am a member of the Sigma Delta Tau English honor society. Another way I express my creativity is through taking guitar lessons on campus. After graduation, I hope to find a career in publishing, particularly in children’s and young adults books.

My name is Nathan Schmidt and I am a senior at Fairfield University. I am an individually-designed major in Economic History, with minors in English and Classical Studies. On campus, I serve as the editor-in-chief for the campus satirical paper Stagnation, and as a contributing writer for the Inkwell Literary Magazine. I am also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. The diversity of the humanities, and its intersections with the social sciences, have formed the foundation of my undergraduate work. I am eager to explore these fields at Apollon for Issue XII.

Hi! My name is Brianna Hay, and I am a junior majoring in both English and Psychology. On campus I tutor other students in behavioral neuroscience, am an active member in the Best Buddies program, and will soon be a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honors Society. My love for both reading and writing started at a very young age, as I found myself getting lost in a variety of book series that ranged from fantasy to historical fiction. I am so excited to be a part of the Apollon journal as I know this experience will provide me with tips and tools to utilize within the publishing industry.

I am a senior English and Spanish major with a minor in Educational Studies at Fairfield University. Obviously, I love literature and all things writing, but I prefer to say that I major in making connections and communicating effectively with others. While not working at Apollon, you can often find me ordering an iced coffee, arguing with Yankees fans, or brushing up on my trivia skills for the next episode of Jeopardy! I am excited to be a new member of the Apollon team, and hope that this experience will provide me with the skills and knowledge base necessary to find work in the publishing industry after graduation. My name is Megan Falvey, a Junior at Fairfield University. I am majoring in English with a concentration in Teacher Education as well as minors in Educational Studies, Spanish and Graphic Design. I am a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society and I am an aspiring educator. I am so happy to be a part of the Apollon Editor’s team for Issue 10. From a young age, I have loved writing. Whether it be my innermost thoughts tucked away in a journal or an academic thesis, writing holds a special place in my heart. I am grateful to be in a position where I can collaborate with fellow writers to create something special.
Sheila McCombs
Hi! My name is Sheila McCombs and I am a junior English major, with a concentration in education. I have always had an interest in editing and publishing, and I am the managing editor for the Fairfield Mirror, Fairfield's campus news publication. I have also been a writer for The Mirror for all of my years at Fairfield, and have had about 25 articles published during this time. Reading and writing have always been my favorite hobbies and I am so grateful to get to work with Apollon this semester!
